Dan Alter M.D. Ph.D.President of FOCUS

Daniel Alter is a practicing retina specialist in the  northwest suburbs of Chicago. He spearheaded the training and equipping of the first two retina specialists in Haiti through multiple visits to Port au Prince and Cap Haitien and recruitment of other visiting training teams. 

William G. Myers M.D.

William Myers is an Assistant Professor at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he has taught and mentored residents in cataract surgery for nearly 40 years.  He was named Teacher of the Year

3 straight years in the Ophthalmology Program by the residents.

Matt Thompson M.D.

Dr. Matt Thompson began volunteering internationally in 2013. In 2017 he teamed up with Dan and FOCUS to work on improving the education of the residents at the State Hospital in Haiti. 

Paul Chan M.D.
Executive Board Member

R.V. Paul Chan, MD is Professor and Head of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). He is the Co-Director of the Vitreoretinal Fellowship and serves as Director of the Pediatric Retina and Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Service.

Marilyn Miller M.D.

Dr. Miller is a distinguished pediatric ophthalmologist practicing at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois,

Chicago and longtime president of FOCUS Inc. who led efforts in

Nigeria and other locations to prevent and treat blindness.

Linda Lawrence M.D.
Executive Board Member

Linda Lawrence, MD established in 1986 a solo, private practice in comprehensive ophthalmology with pediatric emphasis in Salina, Kansas, USA. Since 1992, she performs functional vision assessment in the early intervention with the Part C program at Salina Regional Health Center, Kansas.

Ana Bastos Carvalho M.D. 
Executive Board Member

Ana Bastos de Carvalho is Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences, University of Kentucky. She is founder and co-director of the University of Kentucky Global Ophthalmology (UK GO) program, whose mission is to prevent blindness by delivering state-of-the-art eye care to underserved populations.
