Volunteers are needed
Ophthalmologists are needed to perform surgery and to teach Haitian residents and recent residency graduates in Haiti. While cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed, all ophthalmic subspecialties are also needed.
Optometrists are needed to examine patients and teach residents. The clinics in Haiti serve a very large number of patients with a broad range of pathology. Everything is needed from the prescription of eyeglasses to the diagnosis of acute and chronic disease. Preoperative and post operative care are also highly valuable.
Anesthesia Providers are needed on some trips when there is a plan to work on children or to perform surgical cases that cannot be performed under local anesthesia.
Nurses are needed to help circulate in the operating rooms. In addition on trips where anesthesia is available pre op and post op nursing care is also required.
Surgical Technicians are needed to help with cases in the OR. There is also a need to help with instrument sterilization of the organization of supplies.
Residents: Ophthalmology residents are encouraged to come on trips with us. It is up to your program director whether or not any credit can be obtained. The cost of the trip must be covered by the volunteer as there are currently no scholarships available.
Medical Students: Medical Students are encouraged to come on trips with us. It is up to the Dean of your medical school whether or not any credit can be obtained. The cost of the trip must be covered by the volunteer as there are currently no scholarships available.
Non Medical Volunteers: Volunteer to help us run our non profit. Do you have expertise in accounting, legal matters, fundraising, marketing? Do you have any skill in any area? Chances are we could use your help. There is a lot more to running a nonprofit than just going on trips and performing surgery. Volunteering to donate your time and expertise in non medical matters is greatly appreciated. Please contact us if you would like to volunteer.
